Enhanced Summer Planting Survival of Japanese Larch Container-Grown Seedlings

نویسندگان

چکیده

A previous study revealed low survival rates for Japanese larch (Larix kaempferi) summer-planted seedlings grown in Hiko-V-120 containers. This examines nursery practices that could potentially prevent deterioration of the seedling water balance after planting to improve rate this species, which has a drought tolerance. During summer planting, we tested (1) hardening or high-potassium fertilization two months before (2) antitranspirant topping treatment at and (3) use JFA-150 container with larger capacity lower growing density than container. Drought increased tolerance because leaf:root ratio, due leaf mass production, resulting from 74% 93% When containers were used, ratio was higher root mass, an increase 87%, highest 97% when combined hardening. The application over 90%, whereas did not, probably severer competition weeds. High-potassium not affect traits survival. For better container-grown seedlings, it is recommended they be providing sufficient cell volume growth while are irrigation withheld planting. In addition, obtain survival, can applied cost.

Extending the Planting Period of Dormant and Growing Norway Spruce Container Seedlings to Early Summer

In order to make mechanized planting economically viable, the present spring planting period for Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) seedlings in Scandinavia needs to be extended. To evaluate the possibilities to extend the planting period, six field experiments were established in four years during which frozen-stored, dormant seedlings and actively growing seedlings targeted for spring pl...

Sexual expression in container-grown jack pine seedlings.

We assessed the effects of nitrogen, drought and gibberellin A(4/7) on sexual expression of 2- and 3-year-old jack pine (Pinus banksiana L.) seedlings grown in either a 1/3 peat/sand mix or a 3/1 peat/perlite mix. The seedlings were either watered daily (well-watered treatment) or droughted by withholding water from July 13 to August 24 (drought treatment). Half of the plants in each irrigation...

Pathogenicity of the pinewood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, to Japanese larch, Larix kaempferi, seedlings.

Pathogenicity of the pine wood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, to Japanese larch, Larix kaempferi, seedlings was tested with inoculation experiments under nursery conditions. Water suspensions of nematodes (mixed stages cultured on Botrytis cinerea or dispersal fourth-stage juveniles (DJ4) extracted from the adult Japanese pine sawyer, Monochamus alternatus) were injected into the stems o...

Incident Irradiance and Cupric Hydroxide Container Treatment Effects on Early Growth and Development of Container-grown Pawpaw Seedlings

The North American pawpaw [Asimina triloba (L.) Dunal] has great potential as a fruit crop or as a landscape plant. The influence of incident irradiance on pawpaw seedling growth and development in containers was examined in the greenhouse and outdoors. Root spiraling can be a problem for container-grown pawpaw seedlings; therefore, the influence of paint containing cupric hydroxide [Cu(OH)2] a...

Performance of Container-grown Seedlings of American Chestnut Backcross Hybrids Bc3f3 Generation in Central Louisiana

Seedlings from two families of the BC3F3 backcross generation of the American chestnut (Castanea dentata) and Chinese chestnut (C. mollissima) were cultured in 2013 in Missouri using the Root Production Method®, a container-based system used to avoid disease problems associated with bareroot nursery production. After culling part of the seedlings at initial leaf formation in a greenhouse, both ...
